District Executive - Annete Marquis, MSW

Annette came to the District in April 2006. She has been an active lay leader within Unitarian Universalist congregations, the Heartland district, and the Association at large for fifteen years. She serves as the facilitator of the UU Allies for Racial Equality, and as a JUUST Change congregational consultant and a Beyond Categorical Thinking trainer for the UUA. As a volunteer for the UU Trauma Response Ministry, Annette spent three weeks in Mississippi and Louisiana providing mental health and other disaster relief to victims of Hurricane Katrina. She led a team of TJD members on a return visit in August 2007, and plans another mission trip in August 2008.

In the late 90’s, Annette was one of the founders of Epiphany Community Church, Unitarian Universalist, Fenton, MI and served as its first president. She also served on the Board of Trustees of the Flint Unitarian Universalist Church in Flint, MI, was on the Michigan District Board and was among the first group of District Compensation Consultants for the UUA.

Annette received her master’s degree in Social Work from Boston University and has worked as an administrator and executive director of numerous not-for-profit organizations, including chemical dependency treatment programs and crisis intervention centers. From 1995 to 2006, she was a partner in a software consulting and training firm, TRIAD Consulting, based in Traverse City, MI, and has co-authored numerous software how-to books. 

In addition to the joy of working in a dynamic district and a beautiful part of the country, she delights in being able to feed her personal passion for women’s basketball as many of the top college teams are in the District.

District Director of Faith Development - Sue Sinnamon

2007: The Thomas Jefferson District announces the appointment of the Reverend Sue Sinnamon as the full-time District Director of Faith Development (replacing our part-time Religious Education Program Consultant) in the Thomas Jefferson District. Sue has served as a Religious Education Professional since 1983. She most recently served as the Associate Minister for Religious Education at the Unitarian Church of Evanston. Her background includes Unitarian Universalist Life Span Religious Education, Humanistic and Transpersonal Education and lifespan models of spiritual growth and development. She has served on the Meadville Lombard Winter Institute Committee; taught Creating Intergenerational Community and Spirituality in the Second Half of Life at Star Island's Religious Education Week; served in the CMWD Consultants Program; chaired the Board of the Jung Institute of Chicago and served on the Housing Commission for the City of Evanston, IL.

In her 20 years of parish ministry, she has loved creating opportunities for intergenerational activities and in addition to extensive experience with social justice programming, she loves combining the arts with religious education. Sue believes that each part of our spiritual journey has its own integrity and lessons from the earliest years through the second half of life.

Sue began her position officially on August 15, 2007. She will be living in Williamsburg, VA with her husband, John Kerr, who will serve as the Episcopal Chaplain at the College of William and Mary and Bruton Parish, and her cat, Bert the Bengal. Sue loves entertaining (especially the cooking),  reading, and beaches. She is looking forward to offering her wealth of experience and her incredible expertise to everyone in the TJD and the UUA.

District Administrator - Glenn D. Johnson Sr.

2006:  Glenn comes to the District with more than eight years experience as a large-church administrator where he administered 2,600- and 1,800-member Presbyterian and Methodist congregations. Glenn is certified as a Fellow in Church Business Administration by the National Association of Church Business Administration. In 1998, Glenn was ordained by his Baptist church as a Minister of Administration.

 Glenn is exceptionally committed to church administration and is thrilled to be working for the Unitarian Universalists at this point in his personal faith journey. Glenn has a B.A. from Vanderbilt Universality in English. Prior to working in church administration, he spent 23 years as co-owner and Vice President/Chief Financial Officer for Bush Stationers, a 10-store retail chain in Charlotte, NC. In this position, he had extensive experience in personnel management and advertising.

District Trustee - Elected 2007

2007:  Anna Olsen has an M.A. degree as a speech pathologist. She worked in public schools for seven years, as a sales consultant for an educational publishing company for five years, started and owned a successful natural foods retail business, directed a political campaign for governor of New Jersey, and have been a corporate trainer for 25 years through the present. She also has conducted training programs for major corporations and non-profits in the U.S. and in many foreign countries. The programs include team building, selling with integrity, customer service, interview and selection process, and long-range planning. 

Anna Olsen was born in Asheville, NC. Before returning to North Carolina 18 years ago, she lived in New Jersey and Boston. She has been married to the Rev. Clark Olsen for 30 years. They are members of the UU Church of Asheville.

She plans to visit each of the Thomas Jefferson District congregations, and says, “It is a great honor to be your trustee to the UUA Board. Please contact me with advice, concerns, and ways that I may be helpful to your congregation.”
