Greetings from the TJD RE Committee

One of the goals we set at our May retreat was the expansion and diversification of our RE committee. Our current group consists solely of DREs (or retired DREs) who are women. We would like to hear other voices and seek other perspectives in our religious education work. Along with diversification we are defining specific areas of responsibility for each of our members. The end result will be a committee that better serves this district and it's RE needs and makes best use of the skills of our members.

Another goal is to continue defining congregational clusters to include all congregations. Ours is a large district, geographically and that presents challenges. One way to bring us all together is through the use of clusters for meetings and training opportunities.
Our final major goal is to work to educate congregations. This effort will include offering information on best practices, creating awareness of the resources we offer and encouraging congregations to be fiscally responsible. These efforts are intended to help stabilize RE leadership and to stimulate growth in our district.

Our goals support our quest to keep improving to meet the changing needs of religious education in these difficult times. Our committee has been held up as an example of a well functioning committee.

Respectfully submitted
Vicki Benavides, Chair
