Chalice Lighters

It is with great pleasure that we announce the record-breaking amount of $19,014 for the New Bern, North Carolina, Chalice Lighter Call. This amount exceeds all others in the recent past. CONGRATULATIONS and thanks to all the Chalice Lighter members who participated in this call. The New Bern congregation has hired a part-time minister, The Rev. Alice Lane, who begins her ministry in September.

The next call letter, which was mailed July 30th, is for the Hillsborough, N.C., congregation, also for their part-time minister, The Rev. Robin Renteria. Please continue to honor your pledges to this call.

These past few months we have been busy contacting all Chalice Lighter Coordinators asking them to correct addresses so that we can reduce the amount of undeliverable mail. The more than 700 incorrect addresses have been reduced to fewer than 100. Shannon Cocheo, our district administrator, and I will continue to follow-up on this project. Thanks to all the coordinators for responding to our plea.

Now that the Extension Committee has been reorganized into the Growth and Development Council, the Chalice Lighter Program is now the Chalice Lighter Committee. As such, it is under the aegis of the Council and has been expanded. The committee now consists of the chair and two members. Please welcome AIMEE TATTERSALL , Hillsborough,N.C., and MARTHA FOWLER , Greensboro, N.C., as the two new members of the Chalice Lighter Committee.

The Chalice Lighter membership now stands at, approximately, 2,047. I believe this is the highest enrollment in the program's history. This figure represents 23% of the T.J. District membership.
