Perfect Attendace at the Annual Meeting
by Myrtle Hepler, TJD Meeting Coordinator

Six congregations sent their maximum number of delegates to the Annual Meeting held in Charlotte, April 16-17, and therefore had the largest voice possible for the work of the District. Greensboro, New Bern, Aiken, Myrtle Beach, Newberry, Holston Valley and Meadowview got the most for their money. If every congregation had sent all its delegates and every minister had attended, plus District staff and UUA facilitators, we would have had in excess of 170 UUs present. we would have had twice as much fun, rasied twice as much money for our Welcoming Table (Fund for the Future Phase II) and gone back to our congregations with twice the enthusiasm. Is out message worth the time and effort? Of course it is. What would your life be like if you had never heard our liberating message? The world needs us more than ever. Lets gather to deepen our faith and go home to spread our faith.

The next opportunity will be October 8-9 in Augusta, GA at the FALL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE. Make plans now and watch for details in the coming weeks.

Pastoral Care in Changing Times

Providing a sense of community for members is one of the most important tasks of ministry. Pastoral Care Members and Ministers respond to the needs of their community for skilled listening and care by performing a range of services - visiting the sick and shut-in, supporting the elderly and disabled. Often these roles involve stressful situations that require comforting members in times of crisis and holding and nursing their broken hearts.

This conference provides a forum for sharing, exploring and celebrating caring ministries in congregational settings. Participants will be involved in a combination of panel discussions, skills building workshops, small group work, and experiential learning.

The conference is recommended for Lay Leaders, Ministers, Religious Educators and Chaplains.

Workshops to be presented include:
*Pastoral Care in congregations without a minister
*Parish nursing
*Domestic Violence
*Substance Abuse

Cost: $35 for the first congregational team member
$30 each additional.(Lunch Included)
