Your Wild(e) Trustee’s Report
April 25 - 27 Meeting
- The Board approved the application of the Thermal Belt UU Congregation of Tryon, North Carolina for membership in the UUA. Congratulations to our newest member.
- President Sinkford reported that the UUA is moving towards a more flexible, consultancy approach to our anti-oppression and anti-racism work. We will continue to offer the Jubilee I and Jubilee II trainings as well as using consultants who will tailor recommendations for engagement with this work. We are putting into development a Welcoming Congregation type resource on racism. President Sinkford is reaching out to our religious professionals as leaders in this work. At GA, he will meet with the senior ministers of our largest congregations to invite them back into relationship with the UUA on this issue. "I reviewed the outlines of this new approach with the TJ district anti-racism conference, at least in outline, two months ago. The response was enthusiastic, to say the least."
- On the subject of growth, President Sinkford reported on our two new growth experiments. The Dallas/Fort Worth new start is moving ahead rapidly, with the lead minister hired, commitments forthcoming shortly to acquire property and very successful local fundraising. In Kansas City the new billboards have been up for some time, the TV spots have been run, the radio ads are on the air and the congregational events are taking place. While it is too early for conclusions, we are tracking visitor and membership patterns, and will conduct a post-test awareness study. Our congregations in the area are highly energized. There have been almost 9,000 hits at the KC visitor page at
uua.org. The media campaign will be showcased at GA.
- The Board spent much time on putting a budget together for next year. The endowment is declining in value and this presents us with difficult budgetary decisions. Next year's budget will be approximately one million dollars less than last year's. The Board adopted a balanced budget for next year.
- The Board approved Portland, Oregon as the site for the 2007 GA.
