ED WILDE TO BE

NEW TJD UUA TRUSTEE

The new TJ District UUA trustee will be Ed Wilde. A second candidate, Phil Sterner withdrew at the last minute, obviating the need for an election. Ed Wilde has served as chief academic officer at three universities and more recently as Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at USC Spartanburg. As of July 1, 1999, when he is to take over the office from Leon Spencer, he will have retired from his full-time teaching responsibilities and finished his term as President of the UU Church of Spartan-burg. Following is his statement of candidacy.

"During the past seven years of my service on the TJ District Board, I have served as Vice-President and as a member of the Finance Committee and the Extension Committee. Currently I am serving as Chair of the District Executive Search Committee. I have been a UU since the early 60's.

Good communication between the UUA Trustee and the District Board is a necessity. If elected UUA Trustee, I plan to attend all the District Board meetings. I also will write a column for the TJ Connection so that the district congregations are aware of what is happening at the UUA level. At appropriate times, I will seek input from the congregations on issues of importance to them.

I will continue to support the acquisition of a District RE Consultant, a project that I have been working on since the inception of the idea. As a member of the District Anti-Racism Team, I plan to be actively involved in the District's anti-racism efforts. At the UUA, I will continue to support the ongoing Fulfilling the Promise process. I bring financial experience both at the congregation and District levels that can be of use to the UUA. Prior to moving to the TJ District I was deeply involved, as President, in raising over $800,000 for a new building for the UU Church of Clearwater, FL.
