UU Fellowship of Raleigh, NC Seeks DRE

We are seeking a full-time Director of Religious Education to manage and oversee our large YRE program. The enthusiasm, vision, organization and commitment to children of the DRE will continue to grow our YRE program and to expand its involvement with the larger congregation. The DRE will work collaboratively with our YRE committee to set goals and policies and to design and implement rich and meaningful experiences for our children and youth.

A successful candidate will have a degree in education, child development or related field; experience with the administration of programs for children; superb interpersonal skills; and the ability to implement meaningful and effective volunteer training. An experienced religious educator with knowledge of UU curricula and teaching RE classes is preferred, but we are willing to be flexible about background. Previous work with volunteers and supervision of staff is important. Our ideal DRE will be flexible, dependable, organized, a good communicator, have good time management skills and a deep commitment to children. Leaping tall buildings in a single bound is helpful but not required.

First Unitarian Church of Portland, OR Seeks DRE

First Unitarian Church, Portland, OR has been the voice for liberal religion in downtown Portland for over 135 years, and is a place for people on various spiritual paths.

The First Unitarian Church of Portland is seeking a religious educator to lead the church’s ministry to children and families. The Religious Educator for Children envisions, directs, coordinates and evaluates the religious education program, known as the Learning Community, for children—infants through 6th grade. The program includes direction of Sunday morning religious education classes, children’s and intergenerational worship, family-life education, pastoral care to children and families, social activities, social justice projects and a six-week summer program for children.

The program currently has about 500 children and youth enrolled. Professional works closely with religious educators for youth and adults. Works closely with ministers and professional colleagues to carry out mission of the church.

History buffs, train enthusiasts, and Civil War aficionados are cordially invited to the Historic Manassas Weekend, June 6-8, 2003, sponsored by Bull Run Unitarian Universalists of Manassas, Virginia. The weekend will feature UU-led tours of the Manassas Battlefield and Old Town, life size and model trains at the Manassas Heritage Railway Festival, and a visit to the Occoquan National Wildlife Refuge with UU naturalists. For spouses and friends with a less historical bent, we offer a major juried arts and crafts fair, a choice of four golf courses, and outlet mall shopping. Guests will stay two nights and breakfast with a host from our congregation. Two dinners and a picnic lunch will be served communally. All this is yours for $175 per person.
