AN APPROACH TO ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
By Rev. Marjorie Montgomery,
RE Program Consultant, Southwest District, UUA
Ideally, a congregation would offer courses from each of the following categories at least once or twice a year. The starred curricula can be purchased from the UUA Bookstore and catalog (found online at the www.uua.org website). A committee of three to five people can do the planning, scheduling, and publicity for the courses offered.
THRESHOLD COURSES offer an introduction to Unitarian Universalism, to the faith community, and to building a personal belief system:
The New UU
Building Your Own Theology I and II
Catechism With an Open Mind
Our Chosen Faith
Covenant Groups/Small Group Ministry (check with your district office or field staff)
DEEPENING courses offer UU History and heritage, UU identity in community, and
relational skills:Unitarian Universalism: An Heretical History (1/2 hour video)
Epiphany courses offer spiritual and personal growth and learning, knowledge of other religious paths:
Living One's Beliefs courses that help us toward the integration of beliefs with deeds, and a life of integrity:
