Library Policy

The TJD RE Committee provides a Lending Library free for the use of the Thomas Jefferson District Churches and Fellowships. The catalog is available online at www.tjd.uua.org/re/relib/html  If you would like a hard copy, please contact the Librarian..

How to use the Library?

Select the books, curricula, and/or multi-media materials you want and fill out a form with your request. You may mail it to the Librarian or e-mail it. The librarian will make every effort to respond quickly to your request. If there is a waiting list or other situation, you will be notified by telephone very quickly. Often, the District will purchase a popular book so you can have a copy.

The only cost to you is the postage to return the item.  Please mark your package "Media Mail", address it to the Librarian at the address above, and please insure the book against loss or damage..

What happens when the books are due?

Around the first of May, you will receive an email/letter listing the books and curricula your church has. The items are due back to the library by June 30th. If the item(s) haven't been returned, the librarian will send one reminder.

If there is still no response, a letter is sent to the DRE or to the Congregation Board President stating that the books seem to be lost. There are two choices: Look really hard and find them and return them, or pay for the replacement of the books. Prices and shipping and handling fees will be listed in the letter.

When books are not returned...
We are accountable!

The TJD RE Lending Library works because Congregations are accountable and feel the responsibility of caring for the borrowed materials. If for some reason your church loses books and you have to pay for them, please do so quickly. Our policy is you may not use the library until your account is settled. We also request that all curricula are returned complete; i.e., pages aren’t missing. If the librarian has to copy missing pages, you will be billed for the cost. Many of our books fall in the ARCHIVES category and we can't replace them. Thank you for using this library!
